Calgary’s AHF Helps the Hitchcock Family

In December Alberta Hardwood Flooring assisted Easter Seals with their unique ‘Give a Kid a Lift Program’. The program provides a residential elevator in the home of a family with a child with a disability. The Give A Kid A Lift (GAKAL) program is funded solely through community partnerships and revenue from an annual fundraising concert that is held in March of every year. Alberta Hardwood Flooring Calgary provided flooring and installation services as part of the project.

This year’s recipient was the Hitchcock family who resides in southwest Calgary. Caleb, their six-year-old son was born with a condition called “Polymicrogyria”, which means his brain’s surface has too many small folds (gyri) in certain areas. This atypical brain malformation causes Caleb to have multiple types of seizures. These seizures further contribute to Caleb’s significant physical and mental developmental delays and he requires a wheelchair for mobility. An elevator in his home eliminated many barriers for the family.  You can learn more about the family here.

The staff and management of Calgary were more than happy to do their part to help make this world a better place for children like Caleb.
