Gives new meaning to ‘tree lights’

An article in the latest issue of Hardwood Floors magazine really caught our attention. Antony Evans and his team at the Glowing Plant Project have devised a way to create bioluminescent trees. In simple terms, they spliced “bioluminescent genes from fireflies into Arabidopsis plants.” They theorize that someday bioluminescent trees might be used for street lighting. Apart from that, will bioluminescent trees produce bioluminescent wood? And will bioluminescent wood produce bioluminescent wood flooring? So many questions, so many possibilities.
